Viktor Yuschenko
The President of Ukraine
Like the rest of the world, our country is being influenced by the global financial crisis. The strategic sectors of the national economy - banks, metallurgy, and building - were most influences by the crisis. Hence, the situation is under control.
At the initiative of the President of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Parliament reached anti-crisis laws, that are expected to stabilize the economic situation in the country. We are now making important steps in this direction: creating a stabilization fund, giving support for infrastructure and investment projects, decreasing interest rates for small and medium-size business, safeguarding the stability of the bank system. Special attention was paid to the formation of a deposit insurance fund.
Ukraine has significant gold reserves. An International monetary fund loan for Ukraine will work as an additional stabilizing factor for the economy as well. This credit has an economic and psychological effect giving us a chance to stabilize our national currency, the hryvnya, and to protect the long-term growth of the economy. Investors now can analyze their financial risks. As a result of such a reassessment we are waitiing a new inflow of funds from abroad.
As a banker and economist the President is sure that Ukraine defused these threats in a timely fashion. Viktor Yuschenko took direct personal control of the situation. One of the main principles was to make the government and political authorities to abandon economically unsound and politically populist social subsidies. The PArliament made some mistakes that need to be solved. |
