
Ukraine in May 2010 strengthened steel production by 31% year-on-year, to 3.08 million tones, ranking it eighth among the world's 66 main steel producing nations.
The rating was reported by the World Steel Association (formerly the International Iron and Steel Institute or IISI).
The top ten steel producers in May 2010 were China (56 million tones, a 20.7% rise), Japan (9.8 million tones, a 50.2% rise), the United States (7.2 million tones, a 73.8% rise), Russia (5.9 million tones, a 24.6% rise), India (5.6 million tones, a 2% rise), South Korea (5.2 million tones, a 28% rise), Germany (4.01 million tones, an 87.7% rise), Ukraine, Brazil (2.9 million tones, a 50.8% rise), and Turkey (2.4 million tones, an 18.8% rise).
The major steel maker countries (accounting for 99% of world steel output) in May 2010 formed 124.184 million tones of steel, which was 29% up on May 2009.
The major steel maker countries in January-May 2010 produced 587 million tones of steel, which was 29.8% up year-over-year.
The top 10 steel producing countries in January-May 2010 were China (268.9 million tones, a 23.8% rise), Japan (45.3 million tones, a 51.7% rise), the Untied States (33.8 million tones, a 69.3% rise), Russia (27.1 million tones, a 24.1% rise), India (27.2 million tones, an 8.2% rise), South Korea (23.4 million tones, a 27.7% rise), Germany (18.9 million tones, a 66.7% rise), Ukraine (14.2 million tones, a 24.7% rise), Brazil (13.4 million tones, a 56.9% rise), and Italy (11.3 million tones, a 37.8% rise).
The major steel making countries in 2009 produced 1.2 billion tones of steel, which is 8.1% down on 2008. |
