Contest "7 Natural Wonders of Ukraine"

 

On the 7-th of July started Internet voting in the contest "7 natural wonders of Ukraine", in which thee members from the Autonomous Republic of Crimea took part. It was reported by the organizers of action.

According to the information provided by the organizers of action in the number of the Crimea pretenders were the Balaklava Bay with capes Aya and Fiolent, Karadah natural reserve and Marble cave. The finalists of the action were

  • biosphere reserve Askania-Nova (Kherson region)
  • geological reserve Bazaltovy stolby (Rivne region)
  • landscape reserve Bukovynski waterfalls (Chernovtsi region)
  • Mountain Goverla (Ivano-Frankivsk region)
  • regional landscape park granite Pobuzhzhya (Mykolaiv region)
  • Desnyanska Obolon (Chernihiv region)
  • Dnistrovskiy canyon (Vinnytsya, Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil region)
  • Dunay biosphere reserve (Odessa region)

Other participants were:

  • Stone graves (Donetsk region)
  • Kaniv mountains (Cherkassy region)
  • Kochubeevski oaks (Poltava region)
  • Oleshkiv sands (Kherson region)
  • Optimistic cave (Ternopil region)
  • Podil Tovtry (Khmelnytsk region)
  • Svityaz lakes (Volyn' region)
  • Synevir (Zakarpattya region)
  • Yablonya-koloniya (Summy region).

According to the reported data for the participants in the action more than 11 000 of voices were given. Let's note that the Podil tovtry already got about 3000 of voices.

"The main goals of the action "7 natural wonders of Ukraine" is a propaganda of the unique natural world of Ukraine that can be a successful visit card of our country, as well as attraction of publicity and authorities to the condition of the objects of the Ukrainian nature, their problems, threatens for reservation and so on", - reported Mykola Tomenko.

In order to get more information there were special press-tour round Ukraine organized during the action.

As the result of contest the Organization Committee of the action determined such 7 natural wonders of Ukraine:

  • Askania Nova (biosphere reserve, Kherson region)
  • Dnistro canyon (Vinnytsya, Ivano-Frankivsk and Ternopil region)
  • Granite steppe Pobuzhzhya (regional landscape park, Mykolaiv region)
  • Marble cave (Autonomous Republic Crimea)
  • Podil Tovtry (National natural park, Khmelnytskiy region)
  • Svityaz lake (Volyn' region)
  • Synevir lake (Zakarpattya region)

As well Balaklava bay with capes Aya and Fiolent, Oleshkiv sands and Optymistic cave were determined as other three significant natural objects in Ukraine.

Askania Nova Biosphere Reserve

Biosphere reserve Askania Nova is a unique corner of nature: here the single in Europe steppe area that was never touched by plough is located (once dig out steppe will never be restored).

The reserve Askania Nova is referred to "100 great reserves and parks" of the world by the eponymous book printed by the Russian edition "Veche" in 2002. The Museum under the open sky: here separate ancient burial mounds, stone Scythian women.

The reserve takes the area of 11 000 ha, borders on forest with artificial lakes where lots of animals and birds reside. There are more than 400 species of plants and flowers on the territory of Askania reserve.

Dnistro canyon

Dnistro canyon is one of the largest in Europe. Its length counts for 250 km. The height of the banks is somewhere 250 m. The canyon crosses three areas of Ternopil region.

In the village Dzvenygorod of Borschevskiy region there is the best descent to the river Dnister. The height of the slopes here reaches 100 m. In Dzvenygorod and nearest village Trubchyn remained three "walls" - ancient layers of Silurian that have more than 400 mln of years. The temperature of air here is in 6C higher than in the region.

Granite steppe Pobuzhzhya

Granite steppe Pobuzhzhya, regional landscape park that has its beginning from the suburbs if the village Migiya. Its area includes 6267 ha in the borders of territories of Pervomaysk, Arbuzinsk, Domanevsk, Voznesensk, Bratsk areas of Mykolaiv region.

Here, from Migiya to Alexandrovka, almost on the length of 40 km, the river Buh flows between picturesque stone banks. Among the beautiful steppes there is a narrow canyon like valley with granite rocks, cataracted river, waterfalls and islands.

The territory of the park is one of the most ancient territories of Eurasia that didn't dip into the sea depths for almost 60 million of years.

That is why large amount of unique objects of wild natures are concentrated here. In the content of local flora they count 900 species of plants, 26 of which brought into the Red Book of Ukraine, 4 of them - into European Red List.

Svityaz lake

The lake Svityaz is located on the Souther slope of Novogrudska unland on the height of 258 m over the sea level. The square includes 2.24 km2.

The lake has round form. Maximum length 1.7 practically is equal to width - 1.6 km. Maximum depth is 15 m, average - 3 m.

The basin of the lake is of karst origin. It was formed due to collapse of stratums into underground empties.

On the banks of the lake Svityaz people started to settle in very ancient times. Near the village Valevka the settlement of late Old Stone Age was found. Currently the lake Svityaz is used in recreational purposes. Amateur fishing is permitted.

Marble cave in Crimea

In 1987 the Sevastopil section not far from the caves Tysyachegolovaya (Binbash-Koba) (One with thousand heads) and Kholodnaya (Suuk-Koba) (Cold) opened a unique in beauty huge cave with complicated system of halls and galleries.

New cave, the entrance to which was located on the height of 920 m over the sea level, was called Marble Cave. Created in 1988 center of speleotourism "Oniks Tour", being focused on the best international experience, after detailed research, started to establish excursion routes - new concrete paths were built, lightning was installed.

The Marble cave was opened for visitors in 1989. During this time it already has seen several hundreds of thousands of visitors and citizens of peninsula.

Visitors are able to see huge halls with cranky forms of singer formations, unique types of crystals. The length of established excursion tours includes about 1500 m. The length of all halls is more than 2 km, and depth - 60m.

Podil Tovtry

Tovtry is residues of coast reefs. It is a national natural park that was created under the order of President of Ukraine from 27 June 1996 with total area of 261316 ha. Tovtry is a local name of stone area the height of which sometimes reaches 400 m over the sea level.

Rich flora of the reserve counts 800 species of vessel plants with significant part of rare, endemic species, from which 29 are brought to the Red Book of Ukraine. The largest territories of reserve have forests and steppes.

Synevir lake

One of the most popular routs of the Ukrainian Carpathians is the larges mountain lake Synevir (Sea Eye), located on the height of 989 m over the sea level. Natural beauty of surroundings is concentrated here with great power.

In order to see this Carpathian wonder by yourself it is ought to reach 32 km of picturesque road from Zakarpattya region town Mizhhirya.
