The Ukrainian Community of Kyiv, union of national and patriotic associations, has called on Prime Minister of Ukriane Yulia Tymoshenko to implement a presidential decree on the building of a monument to the Kruty Heroes in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.
The union noted this in a statement made available on January 29.
The demand was formed in a letter sent to the Prime Minister pointing out that the government has not taken yet any measures to build the monument, although Ukrainian President Viktor Yuschenko signed the decree in 2007.
"Instead of construction of a monument on Askold's Grave, where the young men who died near Kruty were buried, there's a cracked cross. The courage and self-sacrifice, patriotism and heroism shown by the Kyiv students should not be marked only with annual flower and wreath laying ceremonies. A real monument should be constructed for the heroes," admitted one of the union's leaders, Nazar Prykhodko. |
